Yue Lake Academy: A Harmonious Blend of Song Dynasty Aesthetics and Modern Design

Wang Dacheng's Award-Winning Design Balances Space Art and Commercial Value

Wang Dacheng, along with his team at Mind Design, drew inspiration from the Song Dynasty's elegant charm and Lingnan's ritual culture. The design aims to provide a space where people can reconcile their emotions, relax, and experience an ideal living environment with a humanistic touch. The design's unique properties lie in its core concept, "To Be the Best." This concept is realized through the artistic trend of rationality and philosophy, derived from the connection of Neo Confucianism and aesthetics in the Song Dynasty.

The design's realization technology is a testament to its uniqueness. The open reception area with a multi-access courtyard guides visitors to start an immersive space experience. The symmetrical beauty of the design, from hard decoration to soft decoration, inherits and deducts the oriental ritual order thought. The space is impressed by simple and condensed feelings, using contemporary architectural language.

In the 7-meter-high space, metal and wooden grilles enclose the screens around, making the space broad and grandeur. The reception desk catches the eye with its unique and original shape, embellished by luminous glass bricks and tiles and the screen of silk ink painting. Copper vessels, inspired by the Chinese pattern of 'Begonia Massoniana', stand in the center of the space, matching with the light and shadow, mildly and poetically.

The design for the building model area aims at presenting the extraordinary volume of the space in a simple and generous order. The negotiation space, with a large area of wood, cotton, and light white linen color complementing each other, flows with warm and natural oriental elegance. The screen, floor lighting as a partition, make the space more smooth, providing a comfortable environment for sitting and talking.

Yue Lake Academy, located in Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province, China, covers an area of 2617 square meters. The design project, which took several months to complete, faced the challenge of achieving a delicate equilibrium between space art and commercial value, as well as creating a pure and elegant atmosphere. Despite these challenges, Wang Dacheng and his team at Mind Design were able to create a design that reflects the thickness and temperature of humanity in rationality.

This design's unique properties and realization technology, combined with its inspiration and challenges, make it a worthy winner of the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
