Cheerful Contented: A Vintage Industrial Residence

Designing a Charming Home for a Happy Family

The design team of Andersen Chiu and Elma Hsu have created a charming and unique residential space called "Cheerful Contented." Inspired by the family's vision for a happy home, this design combines retro charm with modern simplicity to create a striking and harmonized ambiance. With a focus on vintage industrial features and sleek modern touches, this design stands out from others in its category.

One of the key strengths of the Cheerful Contented design is its skillful integration of vintage industrial elements. The design team has carefully selected home furnishings and color schemes to bring out these features, creating a distinct and captivating atmosphere. Clean, crisp lines are used throughout the interior finish, adding a sleek modern touch that complements the retro charm.

The design team has also paid attention to the functionality of the space. By utilizing similar-toned materials and home furnishings, they have created varied functional areas without the need for excessive zoning. This approach not only maximizes the use of space but also creates a cohesive and coordinated environment.

When it comes to the realization of the design, the team has employed innovative technology and materials. Snap-together laminate flooring with an imitated fair-faced concrete texture has been used to replace traditional cement flooring, providing durability and a desired color and ambiance. The design team has also taken into account the homeowner's request for a spirited theme in the design, meticulously improving the tonal brightness of the kid's room. Cloth materials have been chosen as leading elements, allowing for flexibility in future design schemes.

One of the notable challenges the design team faced was the layout of the master bedroom and the living room. To overcome this, they reconfigured the layout and shifted the entrance door to create a more visually and functionally pleasing arrangement. By using the same hues and materials in both spaces and frequently opening up the door, they have successfully created a coordinated situation between the public and private areas.

The Cheerful Contented design project took place in New Taipei City from January to April 2021. The design team's research focused on using similar-toned materials and home furnishings to create functional spaces, while also incorporating the retro and modern styles favored by the homeowners. The result is a glamorous dwelling that achieves the best consensus among the family members.

This exceptional design has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of Cheerful Contented, which meets professional and industrial requirements. With its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, this design contributes to a better world and provides fulfillment and positive feelings.
