SKF Office: A Blend of Metal and Non-Metal

Blending Transformation Form

The SKF Office design by Xin Lv combines metal and non-metal elements to create a unique and comfortable atmosphere for the office space.

The inspiration for the SKF Office design came from the idea of using non-metal materials as the spatial design context. The collision and fusion of metal and non-metal forms the distinctive characteristic of the space. The design aims to reflect the texture and hardness of metal while integrating it into the overall atmosphere of the office.

The use of floor tiles, latex paint, transparent soft film, crystal brick, stainless steel, and silk cloth spray painting were the key technologies employed to realize this design. These materials were carefully selected to ensure the desired aesthetic and functional qualities of the space.

The SKF Office spans 180 square meters and features unique design elements such as a mirror stainless steel oval wall in the toilet area. The top surface is adorned with a red line decoration pendant made from PVC pipe, glass pipe, and cable. This pendant adds a dynamic and playful element to the space, enhancing its overall activity.

The design team, led by Xin Lv and including Liu Wei, faced several challenges during the project. One of the main challenges was the reconstruction of the staircase to optimize space utilization. The team successfully redesigned the staircase to occupy the smallest possible area and implemented a semi-open design to avoid congestion. Additionally, the General Manager's Office on the second floor was integrated into the design language of diagonal cutting, adding a unique touch to the space.

The SKF Office design reflects the modern office space environment desired by young professionals. It breaks away from the traditional office aesthetics and embraces abstract forms of expression to create an ultra-modern atmosphere. The use of blue as the dominant color, along with the dancing red line, echoes the brand identity and adds a youthful vibe to the office.

The SKF Office design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award recognizes the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. The SKF Office design contributes to a better world by integrating industry best practices and creating a fulfilling and positive work environment.
