The Track: A Fusion of Office and Exhibition Space

Yu Ting Wang and Chien Hsing Chen's Innovative Design Approach

Located in Peidou County, surrounded by factories, designers Yu Ting Wang and Chien Hsing Chen were tasked with creating a workspace that deviated from the typical factory environment. Inspired by the spirit of sports and the organic growth of nature, they designed "The Track," an office space that embodies the essence of a race track, symbolizing the constant race of work life, while incorporating elements of greenery and wood to signify growth and collaboration.

The unique design of "The Track" is a testament to the client's business - a sports factory. The designers ingeniously incorporated a track to guide the flow of movement within the space, separating the manufacturing machine display and the working space. This not only showcases the client's fabric manufacturing process but also reflects the firm's spirit and ethos.

One of the standout features of "The Track" is the use of LED lights within the display shelves, creating a weave-like pattern reminiscent of fabric. This light wall doubles as a storage and display shelf, demonstrating the designers' commitment to multi-functionality. The extensive use of glass throughout the space enhances its size and creates a sense of openness.

The project, spanning 450 square meters, was completed within a short timeframe from May to August 2015. Despite the time and budget constraints, the designers successfully transformed the space into an engaging and innovative workspace. The use of distinct colors, glass panels for acoustic separation, and a large number of clean and neat shelters, all contribute to the overall atmosphere of transparency and brightness.

The design's success is evident in its recognition at the prestigious A' Design Award in 2017, where it was awarded Silver in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and "The Track" certainly fits this description with its unique blend of sports and manufacturing elements in an office setting.
