The No. 2 Eyewear challenges this status quo by innovating how eyewear is designed, made, and constructed to solve these persistent problems.
The No. 2 Eyewear stands out for its minimalist design, maximum durability, and comfort. Made from 0.5 mm ultra-thin Japanese shape-memory stainless steel, the frames are devoid of welding joints and screws, ensuring they can withstand high pressure without breaking. The ultralight materials provide optimal comfort without exerting pressure on the nose and ears. The patent-pending zero-screw locking hinge design replaces traditional screws and barrel hinges, preventing loose hinges and missing screws.
The realization of this design involved a series of bending and folding steps without welding joints and screws. The Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) finishing is anti-scratch and hypoallergenic, and the process is clean and dry with no hazardous materials involved. The lenses are made from impact-resistant, shatter-proof polycarbonate with an anti-reflective coating, providing 100% UV protection. Medical-grade silicone nose pads and temple tips are hypoallergenic and offer the best comfort and grip.
The No. 2 Eyewear is designed to enhance every step of the eyewear experience. From the moment one touches the sunglasses, they can feel the quality and craftsmanship. The smooth motion when opening the temples/arms, the comfort and lightness when wearing the frame, and the relief when taking off the sunglasses without worrying about accidental damage are all part of the unique experience.
Intensive research, surveys, and interviews were conducted to understand the eyewear market, user behaviors, and the pain points of wearing glasses. The data showed that most people experience discomfort and broken glasses. The goal was to solve these problems without sacrificing style. Various manufacturers were sourced, and different materials, designs, and prototypes were experimented with to ensure the top quality product.
Despite the challenges encountered during product development, including sourcing manufacturers and suppliers, the final design was achieved by working with the best manufacturers and suppliers. The No. 2 Eyewear's clean-cut design with minimum components embodies the idea - Less is more. It challenges the status quo by innovating how eyewear is designed, made, and constructed, developing the most durable, ultralight, zero-screw eyewear one could experience. The eyewear problems taken for granted no longer exist - No discomfort. No screws. No broken glasses. Only eyewear that feels like wearing nothing.
This innovative design has been recognized and awarded Silver in A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2021.
