Moonlight Brooch: A Fusion of Oriental Aesthetics and Contemporary Style

Michelle Xianou Ni's Award-Winning Design Combines Traditional Beauty with Modern Craftsmanship

Michelle Xianou Ni's Moonlight Brooch, a stunning piece of jewelry that merges ancient oriental aesthetics with a contemporary style, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award. This unique piece, inspired by the designer's summer memories, is a testament to Ni's innovative spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries of contemporary jewelry design.

Michelle Xianou Ni's inspiration for the Moonlight Brooch comes from the summer scenery of her memory. Elements such as cool summer nights, bright moonlight, leaves, water drops, and trees around the fence from her campus have been transformed into an artistic piece of jewelry. The romance and picturesque beauty of these memories, though misty and far away, have been captured and immortalized in this brooch.

The Moonlight Brooch is a unique blend of traditional and modern elements. Ni's work focuses on original creation, drawing from unlimited inspiration and creative spirit. The brooch integrates ancient oriental aesthetics with contemporary style, using geometric shapes combined with classic pearls to create a romantic and futuristic piece of art. This unique approach pushes the boundary of the contemporary jewelry field, creating a unique artistic piece of jewelry.

The brooch is handcrafted using various materials including 18K gold, silver, pearl, aquamarine, and stainless steel. The transformation from a 2D drawing to a 3D form was achieved using traditional metal techniques such as soldering, folding, stone setting, and the Korean tradition technique kamboo. The final product, hand-polished to perfection, exudes a soft and warm feeling. Ni also mentions the potential for reproduction via 3D printing technology in the future.

The Moonlight Brooch is a perfect round shape with a 15mm height, resembling a small piece of relief sculpture. As a metalwork, it is a strong structure that can be easily packed in a standard square box and carried everywhere. The brooch can be worn on thick cloth, with the pin made of two stainless steel pieces thick enough to support the weight of the brooch. A plain color cloth is recommended to match the style of the brooch and enhance the wearer's look.

The project started in 2009 in London and is still developing into other jewelry collections in China. The work was exhibited in London Origin 2009 and Revive 2017 Korea. The Moonlight Brooch is regarded as one of Ni's representative artworks from an international view, offering a fresh jewelry art style to the current Chinese commercial jewelry field.

Michelle Xianou Ni's Moonlight Brooch, with its unique blend of oriental aesthetics and contemporary style, is a testament to her innovative spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries of contemporary jewelry design. This award-winning design is a perfect example of how traditional beauty can be reinterpreted in a modern way, creating a unique piece of art that is both beautiful and functional.
