Yoshida's inspiration for RIBON came from a personal desire for a ring that was not available in the commercial market. She envisioned a ring that embodied quality, delicate shine, and comfort, akin to precious metal. The design process was challenging, particularly in achieving the ring form, but Yoshida succeeded in creating a piece that is as beautiful as it is wearable every day.
What sets RIBON apart is its unique knitted design. The intricate knitting increases the refraction of light, enhancing the ring's delicate shine. Despite its thin and light form, the ring is warm and comfortable to wear, with no allergic reactions reported. The ring is hand-knitted with a crochet using 14k gold-filled wire, adding to its uniqueness and appeal.
The production of RIBON involves a meticulous process of chain knitting a 0.4 mm 14k gold-filled wire with knitting needles, akin to yarns. The wire is knitted double for strength, and the end is wound three to four times for design. The size and shape are then adjusted as needed. The entire process, from design conception to completion, took Yoshida about 2 to 3 months. Now, each ring can be finished in about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
One of the challenges Yoshida faced in creating RIBON was the high cost of the gold-filled wire. She had to ensure that there were no failures in the process. Additionally, she had to cut the wire smoothly so that the end did not protrude and cause discomfort to the wearer. Despite these challenges, Yoshida was able to create a ring that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable to wear.
RIBON is more than just a ring; it is a testament to Yoshida's innovative approach to jewelry design. The ring's delicate radiance and soft tension, coupled with the chic beauty of 14k gold, make it an ideal piece for adults seeking a unique and stylish accessory. The ring is available in rose gold and other color variations, offering options for individual preferences.
In recognition of its innovative design and outstanding craftsmanship, RIBON was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2019. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. RIBON's win is a testament to Yoshida's talent and dedication to her craft.
