The "Wishing Well" ring is not just a piece of jewelry, but a story brought to life. The designer, Tippy Hung YuTing, found inspiration in a dream where she visited a rose garden and came upon a wishing well. The diamonds in the piece represent the stars reflected in the well, while the ruby symbolizes the passion, dreams, and hopes she entrusted to the wishing well.
What sets this design apart is its unique properties. The ring features a custom rose cut, hexagon ruby set in 14K solid gold. The leaves, carved into the wax, showcase the texture of natural leaves. The ring's band, supporting the flat top, curves inward slightly, a design choice that required the ring size to be mathematically calculated due to its unique structure.
The realization of this design was a journey of innovation and craftsmanship. The ring was designed in CAD, 3D printed, and cast in 14K solid gold. The texture on the leaves was carved after 3D printing to give a more organic feel. The ruby, custom cut into a rose cut hexagon shape, had to be specifically made as such a shape could not be found on the market.
Despite the challenges faced during the design process, including multiple technical drawings and CAD attempts, the final product is a testament to Tippy Hung YuTing's dedication and skill. The ring's design ensures comfort and functionality, with the leaves sitting slightly lower in the circle frame to avoid catching on fabrics, and a lightweight design that makes it a perfect evening cocktail piece.
The "Wishing Well" ring is more than just a piece of jewelry - it's a symbol of dreams, hopes, and passion. It's a testament to the power of design to bring dreams to life and to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. The ring's recognition with the Silver A' Design Award in 2020 is a testament to its unique design and the skill of its creator, Tippy Hung YuTing.
