The "Ink Black Lightness" project is a testament to Chiu's ability to respond to the real needs of the occupants while emphasizing the integrity of structure and form. The design is inspired by the internal and external conditions of the project, with a focus on the texture of materials and furniture. The result is a work of art that is as functional as it is visually stunning.
What sets this design apart is its use of color. The space is dominated by shades of ink-black, which extend to the wooden walls to create a panoramic view that is both poetic and artistic. The dark color tone, combined with diverse and subtle decoration, brings about a sense of elegance mixed with a hint of luxury.
The project uses special materials such as Senna Siamea, Portuguese Corkwood, and Blue and White Porcelain Marble to give the space an elegant vibe. The project, which spans 230 square meters, was completed in June 2019 in Taichung, Taiwan. The design process involved numerous interviews and communication to generate the elegant and contemporary style that the project is known for.
One of the key challenges in the design process was the beam on the ceiling. The curved angle of the ceiling connecting to that of the dining area not only smoothed out the height difference of the beam but also eliminated the sense of oppression. Another challenge was creating an open area that incorporated the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The solution was vertical black cabinets that organized all devices, making the area neat and tidy.
In conclusion, Fu Mei Chiu's "Ink Black Lightness" is a perfect example of how design can transform a space into a work of art. The project, which has been recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, is a testament to Chiu's ability to blend contemporary aesthetics with a sense of elegance and luxury. It's a design that truly stands out for its unique use of color, materials, and space.
