Be Water: A Kinetic Lamp That Mimics Sunlight on Water

Fernando Correa's Award-Winning Design Offers a Multi-Sensorial Experience

The design of Be Water was inspired by the hypnotic effect of sunlight reflected on the surface of moving water against vertical walls, under bridges, and on boat hulls. The lamp also offers other chromatic variants, including Fire, Air, and Earth, which are inspired by the ardour of flames, the phenomenon of the northern lights, and lavender fields in Provence, respectively.

Be Water is a modular, recessed LED lamp that can be installed inside a light cove or behind furniture. The lamp's light is refracted through a rotating glass cylinder, projecting fluctuating flares of light. The lamp's unique properties and design features make it stand out from other lighting solutions. The color variations of Be Fire, Be Air, and Be Earth are obtained with accessory filters applied directly to the light source.

The lamp is entirely made by Italian craftsmen, with each handmade glass cylinder shaped to resemble the surface of moving water. The materials used in the lamp's construction are carefully selected to reduce environmental footprint, being 100% recyclable. The combination of colors in the optional color filter accessories creates a 3D effect as the colored caustics move and combine themselves on the illuminated wall.

Be Water lamp is designed to be installed inside a light cove grazing the wall or behind furniture, leaving only the moving light visible. The lamp and its chromatic variations can be matched to four different fragrances, four relaxing music playlists on Spotify, and four different chocolates offered to showroom visitors, providing a multi-sensorial experience of relaxation and well-being.

The design of Be Water was exhibited as a prototype at Salone del Mobile in 2019 and as a launch product for the new brand WAW Collection in Milan Design Days in 2020. The design was awarded Platinum in A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021, recognizing its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design.
