Sino-German Creative Park Four: A Masterpiece of Eco-friendly Architecture

Public Architectural Design Institute's Award-Winning Design Fuses Art, Nature, and Architecture

In the heart of Qingdao, China, a unique architectural marvel stands as a testament to the fusion of art, nature, and architecture. The Sino-German Creative Park Four, designed by the Public Architectural Design Institute, serves as a museum and cultural exchange center, contributing to Sino-German communication. This design has been recognized with the prestigious Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021.

The design of the park is rooted in the concept of returning to nature, creating a green, waterfront, and artistic space. The park is a mix of evergreen and deciduous trees, providing an ideal display and working environment. The central area of the site serves as a focal point of vision and a place for relaxation. The design has improved the microclimate and stored rainwater, creating a good ecological environment.

The building itself stands on the north slope of the park, facing the main entrance and overlooking the river landscape in the south. The architectural form adopts a Y-shaped layout, with floor-to-ceiling glass curtain walls facing different landscape centers in the park. The tops of the Y shape are slightly raised, enhancing its iconic and sculptural characteristics. The interior space is mainly made of fair-faced concrete, which echoes the outdoor brick curtain wall and reduces the need for chemical products such as coatings and finishes.

The design process involved topographical simulations to shape different natural topographies according to the landform characteristics of each state. The design emphasizes the continuity of ecology by blending forests in different terrains to form a natural three-dimensional garden. The design techniques of natural landscape and the combination of art and the shape of the earth make the topography of the whole park full of texture changes, enhancing the overall artistry of the park and highlighting the minimalist design concept.

The project, which started in October 2015 and was completed in July 2019, faced several challenges. The three-sided upturned shape of the building required the interior to be naturally flowing down on three sides, converging in the central pillar. There are no other pillars in the rest of the building, achieving a transparent and open indoor space effect. The architects focused on the coordination between the small environment around the building and the context of the park, so that the building could truly be integrated into the park.

The Sino-German Creative Park Four is a shining example of how design can be integrated into nature and add more natural vitality to nature. It is a testament to the Public Architectural Design Institute's commitment to creating architectural designs that are not only visually stunning but also environmentally conscious. The design's recognition with the Golden A' Design Award underscores its excellence and impact in the world of architecture.
