Inheritance: A Unique Residential Design by Mark Han

Creating a Lasting Legacy Through Design

Inspired by the desire to create a lasting legacy for a family, Mark Han, a renowned designer, has crafted a residential design that embodies the essence of home. With a focus on the children's rooms, this design aims to provide a solid foundation for their growth and create a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Let's explore the unique features and design elements of Inheritance.

One of the standout features of Inheritance is the attention to detail in the children's rooms. None of the three bedrooms have right angles, adding a touch of whimsy and creativity. The use of vibrant colors creates a lively atmosphere, while ample storage space ensures a clutter-free environment. Large exterior windows allow natural light to flood the rooms, creating a bright and inviting space that can grow with the children.

Another notable aspect of Inheritance is the incorporation of religious symbolism. Due to the owner's religious beliefs, the designer transformed the cross element on the TV wall. Using a unique refraction texture of champagne metal plates, the cross appears to illuminate the entire family, symbolizing the importance of faith and spirituality in their lives.

The realization of Inheritance involved the use of fashionable milk tea colors and simple line board elements that the whole family loves. The beams and columns in the public areas are wrapped in mirrors and line boards, creating a clean and pure space texture. This design also draws inspiration from light classical modernity, resulting in a harmonious blend of contemporary and timeless aesthetics.

When it comes to the technical specifications, Inheritance showcases a variety of materials such as stone, glass, and wallpaper. These elements are carefully chosen to enhance the soft furnishings of the earth-colored furniture, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality in the design.

The design team behind Inheritance, led by Mark Han, includes Simon Lu and Queenie Gan. Their collective expertise and attention to detail have contributed to the success of this project.

One of the key aspects of Inheritance is its ability to foster family interaction. The open and adjacent living room, restaurant, and kitchen are all built on the same axis, allowing family members to share a broad perspective in all areas of the public space. This layout serves as a platform for family interaction and communication, strengthening the bonds between loved ones.

The creation of Inheritance took place in May 2020 in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to ensure that every aspect of the design was carefully considered. For example, the ceiling of the living room is embedded with long metal plates that refract light, creating a visual effect reminiscent of water ripples. The walls are adorned with metal plates of the same material, adding a touch of fashion and refinement to the space.

Designing Inheritance came with its fair share of challenges. The abundance of natural light in each bedroom presented an opportunity to outline the private areas with simple lines, while catering to the unique preferences of each family member. The master bedroom, for instance, features earthy colors and wardrobe doors made of mounting fabrics to enhance the sense of hierarchy. The milk tea color line board extending from the public domain serves as an embellishment on the headboard, creating a gentle and playful visual effect.

Three separate bedrooms in Inheritance are dedicated to the children, each tailored to their age preferences and filled with their parents' wishes for restful sleep. From pretty wall lamps to dot-shaped cabinets, these rooms provide a personalized and relaxing space for the children. The open and wide reading area, bathed in afternoon sunshine, is a haven for book lovers, while the corridors feature different materials that add to the overall ambiance.
