Dining on 54: A Multifunctional Space Inspired by Mount Kinabalu

Creating a Harmonious Atmosphere with Earth Tones and Natural Elements

The design inspiration for Dining on 54 came from the most recognizable symbol of the mountain located in Northern Borneo, Mount Kinabalu. The topography of Mount Kinabalu has become the highlight within the atmosphere, offering a picturesque scenery visible through the full-height windows at dawn.

Design Gallery, led by Mr. Jackson Y.K. Chia and Mr. Syukrey A.G. Delin, has created a unique and multifunctional space that combines form and function. The design stands out with its earth-toned color palette and the use of natural materials, creating a warm and serene ambiance. The feature wall, made from natural rock collected from Mount Kinabalu, is illuminated from the ceiling, showcasing the texture of the rock. The combination of stone and timber elements further enhances the balance and harmony of the space.

The furniture in Dining on 54 is meticulously designed, with details that exude luxury and deluxe. Leather and gold finishing are used to symbolize opulence, adding a touch of elegance to the space. The designers have carefully selected materials and finishes to create a refined and sophisticated atmosphere.

The realization of the design involved the use of chevron wooden texture to intrigue the sight within the space. Gold stainless steel inlays were applied to create visual interest, while a bronze ceiling design with spray paint coating finishes, combined with hanging features and topography, adds a wow-factor to the space.

Dining on 54 measures 8270mm (W) x 7200mm (D) x 4000mm (H), providing ample space for gatherings and various activities. It serves as a multi-functional space where residents and visitors can enjoy movies, play board games, and have potluck dinners, fostering bonds and relationships.

The project, which started in May 2021 in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. The design team faced challenges in refining the concept and achieving a balance within the atmosphere, considering the selected materials and their interactions.

Dining on 54 has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate resourcefulness, technical skill, and contributions to improving the quality of life.

Experience the beauty and functionality of Dining on 54, where art, architecture, design, and technology converge to create a space that truly enhances the lifestyle of its users.
