Reviving Ancient Culture through Modern Design: Dahua Pan An Lake

Tian Zheng's Award-Winning Residential Area Design Fuses Ancient Chinese Culture with Contemporary Living

In the heart of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu province, China, lies Dahua Pan An Lake, a residential area that is a testament to the fusion of ancient Chinese culture and modern living. This remarkable project, designed by Tian Zheng, has been awarded the Golden A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021 for its innovative approach to integrating cultural heritage into contemporary design.

The inspiration behind Dahua Pan An Lake was to create an artistic atmosphere throughout the project. To achieve this, the design team introduced a series of outdoor rooms and used a water system to harmoniously connect the outdoor spaces. The six courtyards represent the Field Of Six Prosperous Times: Ming Zhang Street, Han Wu Gate, Zhaoxuanting, Guangwu Pool, Wenjing Garden, and Yongyuan Lake. This design concept was born out of a deep appreciation for the rich cultural history of Xuzhou, the birthplace of two famous Han cultures of China.

What sets Dahua Pan An Lake apart from other residential designs is its unique blend of the old and the new. The designers have managed to seamlessly integrate elements of ancient Chinese culture into a modern living environment. The project covers a vast area of 13000 square meters and is constructed using Moorstone, Quartz brick, and U glass. This choice of materials further enhances the aesthetic appeal of the project, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.

The design process involved extensive research into the ancient buildings of Xuzhou. The designers consulted numerous data sources to ensure an authentic representation of the city's cultural heritage. The main challenge faced by the designers was how to fuse the ancient culture with modern lives. However, through innovative design solutions, they were able to overcome this challenge and create a residential area that is both culturally rich and modern.

The project started in April 2018 in Shanghai and was completed in August 2019 in Xuzhou. Throughout this period, the design team worked tirelessly to bring their vision to life. The result is a residential area that not only provides a comfortable living environment but also serves as a reminder of the city's rich cultural history.

Dahua Pan An Lake is a shining example of how design can be used to preserve and promote cultural heritage. It is a testament to Tian Zheng's creativity and innovation, qualities that were recognized when the project was awarded the Golden A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
