Wareth Gardens: A Masterpiece of Japanese Landscape Design

Shiro Nakane's Award-Winning Creation: A Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

Wareth Gardens, an exquisite Japanese-style landscape designed by Shiro Nakane, offers a unique blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary technology. This 6.5-hectare garden, built on a wetland in Ukraine, is a testament to Nakane's mastery in creating spaces that harmonize with nature and evoke a sense of tranquility.

The inspiration behind Wareth Gardens stems from the diverse variety of trees and the changing colors of the seasons. With about 650 different tree varieties and a multitude of colored glasses scattered throughout the garden, Nakane has created an ecologically rich stroll garden that enchants visitors year-round. The garden's unique properties lie in its dramatic organization, combining different types of garden designs to encourage the owner to walk, rest, and think - the essence of the 'Wareth' concept.

Creating Wareth Gardens was a process steeped in observation and understanding of nature's laws. Nakane combined contemporary technology and materials with his own experiences, all while adhering to the traditions of Japanese garden design. The result is a garden landscape that captures the essence of natural beauty and the mystery of nature.

The garden's design was carefully considered to propose a new lifestyle for the owner, one of living symbiotically with nature and enjoying the changes of the four seasons. This is evident in the seasonal enjoyment of Japanese traditions, such as momiji-gari (excursion for viewing autumn leaves), and mushi-kari (catching insects). Wareth Garden is a creation of an idealized designed natural landscape, consistent with natural dispensation and rationality, and is beautiful and desirable for the owner.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was realizing the same quality of a Japanese garden in a colder climate. Another was creating a natural scenery that met the client's request for a space to walk, rest, and think. To overcome these challenges, Nakane and his team undertook extensive field research, traveling around the project site to understand the local natural environment, people's lifestyle, local plants, climate, and local materials, especially stone material for rock-arrangement for the garden stream, waterfall, and pond.

Wareth Gardens is a testament to Nakane's design prowess, winning the Golden A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. Wareth Gardens is indeed a venerated product and a bright idea that advances art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with its desirable characteristics.
