Chao Dong's Cola: The Future of Food Delivery

Intelligent Robot Revolutionizes Indoor Service with Innovative Design and Functionality

Chao Dong's award-winning design, Cola, is an intelligent food delivery robot that is transforming the service industry. Inspired by the Rook, this innovative design is equipped with a series of sensors, enabling obstacle avoidance, contactless delivery, and intelligent voice interaction.

Cola's unique properties set it apart from other designs in the market. As an unmanned delivery robot, it is primarily used in hotels, restaurants, and other indoor scenes. It is equipped with self-developed sports chassis, voice interaction, and visual recognition modules. These features enable Cola to perform automatic delivery, greet guests, attract attention, interact through voice, and navigate autonomously while avoiding collisions. Its design aims to enhance service efficiency, reduce operating costs, and improve the image of the site.

The realization of Cola's design is a testament to Chao Dong's innovative approach. The robot is made using imported high-strength ABS integrated compound molding process, which ensures resistance to high and low temperatures, good strength and toughness, and wide adaptability in usage scenarios. The detachable mechanical structure design reduces the number of connectors and parts, making the product easy to assemble and reducing production cost.

Cola's interaction design is another highlight. In food delivery mode, its four-layer tray structure allows delivery to four tables at once, enabling multi-point delivery and parallel tasks. In greeting mode, Cola can automatically sense guests 2m away and play the set welcome content by voice and screen. It also supports multiple rounds of Q&As. In cruise mode, it can automatically patrol at a fixed route and intermittently play the set voice content.

The project was launched in April 2020 in Changzhou, China, and ended in September 2020. It was exhibited at the 4th China Catering Procurement Exhibition in October 2020. The design research underlying Cola focused on addressing the employment difficulty in today's social service industry. Compared to traditional service staff, Cola has lower monthly rent and maintenance costs, longer working hours, lower error rate, and higher work efficiency.

Designing Cola was not without its challenges. The team had to abandon the humanoid shape and design a cuter waiter concept. The product was designed with a 35 degrees interactive screen that aligns with ergonomic design, and its infrared plate detection and touch sensing functions reduce the difficulty of operation. The result is a more beautiful and scientific overall structure.

Cola's innovative design and functionality have earned it the Silver A' Robotics, Automaton and Automation Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a testament to the remarkable level of excellence that Cola represents.
