New Century Magic: A Unique Blend of Design and Playfulness

Hotel Design by Xiang Li: A Game-Inspired Space for All Ages

The inspiration for the New Century Magic came from a simple childhood game - the loudspeaker game. Xiang Li envisioned a public area in the hotel that could cater to both adults and children, promoting intimate interaction between parents and their kids. The result is an engaging hotel lobby that is not only visually appealing but also functional and entertaining.

What sets New Century Magic apart from other hotel designs is its distinct differentiation from the lobby to the corridors and the rooms. The public area is vibrant and rich in design, with a light and lively color palette. In contrast, the rooms are designed to create a quiet, restful atmosphere, catering to the needs of the guests.

The realization of this design involved the use of a tubular device that conceals cables, keeping the lobby neat and tidy. This device, shaped like a loudspeaker, has different openings at various heights, allowing people of different ages to participate. The design also considers the different travel lines for adults and children, with elevators for adults and tree houses and slides for children.

The project, spanning an area of 9000 sqm, was completed in June 2019. It was a challenge to create a space that could cater to different groups of people - families with children and business people. However, the design team, led by Li Xiang, managed to strike a balance by adopting a clean, fresh, and warm design style for the guest rooms and using childlike and colorful furniture that could be easily moved to transform the space as needed.

The New Century Magic is more than just a hotel; it is a "hotel-paradise" vacation mode. It not only meets the needs of children and inspires their playfulness but also caters to the needs of business people, awakening their inner childlike innocence. This unique design concept has earned the project a Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
