Fun Factory: A Comedy Experimental Theater

Connecting Offline and Online Resources for a New Comedy Theater Concept

The inspiration for this unique theater space comes from the concept of a "round field." The regular venue consists of a central stage and surrounding audience seating, but Fun Factory takes it a step further by extending the entrance and exit channels. This design not only solves the problem of light environment interference during performances but also provides guidance to off-site exhibitions, events, and retail areas before and after the show.

Fun Factory was commissioned by Funfactory Culture Co., Ltd., a renowned stand-up comedy production company and the largest stand-up comedy team in China. The project serves as a significant milestone in their efforts to connect offline and online resources, offering a seamless experience for both live and virtual audiences.

The design team, led by Junpeng Xiao, worked tirelessly to create a theater that embodies the spirit of comedy and innovation. Located in the central area of Shanghai, the project started in April 2019 and was completed in July 2019.

This groundbreaking theater not only showcases the best of talk show culture but also serves as a platform for the exploration of new ideas and concepts. By integrating technology and design, Fun Factory sets a new standard for comedy theaters, providing an immersive and unforgettable experience for all visitors.

The exceptional design of Fun Factory has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
