Maskeeper: The Stylish Solution for Mask Storage

A Hygienic and Handy Innovation for the New Normal

The unexpected pandemic has made mask-wearing a daily habit, but storing masks during mealtime has been a challenge. Tissue papers and envelopes are often used, resulting in a poor user experience and environmental concerns. Introducing Maskeeper, a business card-sized package that provides a hygienic, handy, and neat solution for temporarily storing medical masks.

In these unprecedented times, the need for temporary mask storage has been largely unmet. People have resorted to using envelopes or tissue paper, which are not eco-friendly and offer a poor user experience. To address this, designers Maurice Kwok and Steve Yeung have created Maskeeper, a revolutionary product that tackles this scenario and introduces a new and easy table manner for everyone. With Maskeeper, users can conveniently fold and store their masks in a simple, neat, and hygienic way.

Maskeeper stands out as the first product in the world to satisfy this unmet need. Its unique design allows users to keep their masks in a compact and stylish package, minimizing cross-contamination and ensuring a hygienic storage solution. Made of food-grade PP sheet with die-cut and folds, Maskeeper is not only fast to produce but also affordable for every citizen.

The technical specifications of Maskeeper are as follows: it measures 91 x 61 x 8mm and weighs 10g. The material used is food-grade PP sheet, ensuring safety and compliance with EU EN71-3 Safety Directives, REACH, and RoHS.

What sets Maskeeper apart is its smart and intuitive functionality. Users simply place their medical mask onto Maskeeper and can easily fold and store it in the card-sized package. This simplicity and convenience make it a must-have accessory for anyone looking to keep their masks safe and easily accessible.

The Maskeeper project started on January 31, 2020, and the product was launched to the market on February 21, 2020, in Hong Kong. The design team, which includes Maurice Kwok, Steve Yeung, Kurt Fan, Winky Mak, Elle Yeung, Jack Fok, and Artisana, worked tirelessly to bring this innovative solution to life.

Not only does Maskeeper provide a practical solution for mask storage, but it also has a social impact. The designers partnered with small shops, from restaurants to cafés, to introduce the "Maskeeper Redemption Scheme." This initiative encouraged consumers to make purchases and then redeem Maskeepers at a discounted offer. By doing so, they supported local businesses and stimulated the economy during these challenging times.

The Maskeeper design faced its fair share of challenges. With production plants in mainland China closed, the team had to optimize the design to be efficiently produced locally in Hong Kong using laser cutting machines. This allowed them to meet the urgent demand for the product until mass production facilities became available.

With its sleek design and practical functionality, Maskeeper has garnered recognition in the design industry. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

Maskeeper is not just a mask storage solution; it is a testament to the power of innovation and design in addressing the challenges of the new normal. With its stylish design and practical functionality, Maskeeper is set to become an essential accessory for those navigating the post-pandemic world.
