Amrta: Creating a Tranquil Business Space

Breaking the Traditional Concept of Foot Bath

Inspired by the beauty of nature and the art of ink painting, designer Simeng Yao has created Amrta, a unique business space that combines light, aroma, and music to provide a serene environment for relaxation. With its innovative design and attention to detail, Amrta breaks the traditional concept of a foot bath, offering customers a multi-dimensional experience of "silence," "release," and "intention."

Amrta stands out from other business spaces with its emphasis on creating a calm and soothing atmosphere. The use of even and clean lighting throughout the space blurs the boundaries of the walls, visually opening up the area and instilling a sense of tranquility. The lighting is also adjustable, allowing for customization of light intensity and color temperature based on the weather conditions. This attention to detail ensures that customers always feel at ease, no matter the time of day or season.

One of the standout features of Amrta is the artistic representation of a mountain view. Using a large linear installation made of soft nylon threads, the designer has created an abstract interpretation of a mountain landscape. The gentle curves and soft texture of the threads add a sense of serenity to the overall ambiance of the space, complementing the relaxing experience.

Despite its luxurious design, Amrta was created with cost-effectiveness in mind. The project team carefully selected materials that were both environmentally friendly and budget-friendly, allowing them to achieve the desired effect within a limited budget. The result is a stunning 300-square-meter space that cost only 600,000 yuan to realize.

Amrta boasts a total area of 334 square meters and features 20 beds, providing ample space for customers to unwind and rejuvenate. The combination of light, aroma, and music creates a multi-sensory experience that transports visitors to a state of relaxation and tranquility, even in the midst of a bustling shopping mall.

The design of Amrta was inspired by Chinese mountain scenery and ink painting. The use of abstract elements and the incorporation of traditional ink painting techniques give the space a modern and fashionable appeal. The linear devices in the hall and the line lights in the corridor outline the mountain landscape, creating a unique and artistic atmosphere.

Overcoming the challenge of limited funds, the design team focused on creating a sense of artistic conception through lighting, music, and aroma. By combining these elements, Amrta offers customers a truly immersive experience that engages their senses and promotes relaxation.

Amrta was completed in February 2020 in Chongqing, China, after a six-month project duration. The design has received recognition for its creativity and ingenuity, earning the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

Amrta is a testament to the power of design in creating unique and transformative spaces. With its innovative approach to a traditional concept, this business space offers a haven of tranquility in the midst of a bustling world.
