1898: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity in Liquor Packaging

Combining Chinese Heritage with Contemporary Design

The creative inspiration for "1898" liquor packaging comes from the local characteristic architecture and cultural construction. Designer Zhipeng Zhang aimed to create a historical representative design symbol that visualizes cultural communication and integrates Eastern and Western cultural visions.

The Chinese baijiu, known as "One Hundred Years of Daihe - Sailor," is produced in Beidaihe, China. The "1898 East West Rhyme, opening a new chapter in history" design applies Chinese traditional elements with modern design and visual communication, making the product visually appealing and culturally significant. It captures the essence of Oriental culture, promoting sales and attracting consumers.

The design features a black matte bottle with a unique shape inspired by local characteristic architecture, post boxes, and bronzing techniques. The outer packaging utilizes black special paper with bronzing and UV processes, along with sticker labels.

The bottle has a capacity of 500ml, a height of 22.5cm, a diameter of 9cm, a front height of 28cm, a width of 15cm, and a side width of 12cm.

The visual symbol "1898" serves as the main image, incorporating local characteristic cultural elements into the product. Through three-dimensional thinking, the design combines "traditional culture" and "western elements," enhancing the visual senses and promoting learning and communication between Eastern and Western cultures.

The project began in October 2020 and was completed in November 2020. The design was developed in Shenzhen, with proofing and production taking place in Beidaihe.

The challenges faced during the design process included the need for extra time and labor costs for the stickers on the front of the box. However, the design team believed in incorporating more life elements and viewing the product with three-dimensional thinking to reflect its value and attract consumers.

"1898 East feeling and West rhyme, opening a new chapter of history" aims to be a memorable and culturally significant product. By integrating local cultural elements and combining them with a visually appealing design, it stands out in the market.

The "1898" liquor packaging design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The design exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
