ShuiFa-White Marble in the Wilderness: A Masterpiece in Architectural Design

Qun Wen's Award-Winning Design Transforms Wilderness into a Sophisticated Property Exhibition Centre

Qun Wen's ShuiFa-White Marble in the Wilderness, a property exhibition centre located in Jinan, China, is a testament to innovative design and architectural excellence. Inspired by Wang Wei's verse from Mountain Dwelling in Autumn, this design has been awarded the prestigious Platinum A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2021.

The ShuiFa Info town, located 20 kilometers away from the city centre of Jinan, was initially surrounded by a chaotic mix of high-voltage line towers dotting weed-strewn farmland. Qun Wen, along with the design team members Gen Li, Shixin Gao, Jiarui Li, Suqing Yan, Liuqing Liu, Ye Wang, Dan Zhu, and Jing Du, transformed this space into a relatively enclosed and aesthetically pleasing environment. The design features four "stones" arrangement, with the pavement resembling a stream of clear spring water flowing from the cracks in the rocks.

The building, with a gross built area of 5200 sq m, houses residential sales expos, property expos, and offices. The design's unique properties lie in its strategic use of perforated plating set outside the main structure. The density of the perforation changes from top to bottom, aligning with the function of the building interior. The display areas on the first and second floors have a higher density of perforation for more transparency, while the office spaces on the third and fourth floors have a lower perforation density to ensure privacy and sufficient lighting.

This innovative design technique creates a sense of depth to the building facade and makes the building more environmentally friendly. The perforated plate itself has a shading effect, acting like an ecological skin. The gray space formed between the glass curtain wall and the perforated plate enriches the spatial experience inside the building.

Despite the challenges posed by the undeveloped location, the design team successfully created a visually stunning and functional space. The design's inspiration, derived from Wang Wei's verse, is reflected in the main structure assembled out of white perforated panels. The subtle gradual change in transparency creates pure cultural motifs, adding to the design's uniqueness.

ShuiFa-White Marble in the Wilderness is a shining example of how innovative design can transform a space. Its award-winning status is a testament to its exceptional design and contribution to architectural excellence. This design not only showcases Qun Wen's genius but also sets a high standard for future architectural designs.
