Fairy Tale Forest: An Amenity Design by Fu Chu Hsu

Award-Winning Design Blends Ecological Education with Fairy Tale Inspiration

In a world where urban spaces often lack a connection to nature, Fu Chu Hsu presents a unique design that blends ecological education with the enchantment of fairy tales. The Fairy Tale Forest, an amenity design that won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a testament to Hsu's innovative approach to space planning and design.

The Fairy Tale Forest is not just a design, but a story that seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor spaces. The inspiration for this design came from the idea of a fairy tale forest, a concept that Hsu has masterfully woven into every aspect of the project. The result is a space that feels like a scene straight out of a storybook, complete with waterscapes, greenery, and domestic animal sculptures.

What sets the Fairy Tale Forest apart from other designs is its unique properties and the technology used to realize it. The design team adopted a loop layout to make the narrow 950 square meter space interesting and unique. The space was divided into different functional areas using arcs, creating a public art theme that resonates with the fairy tale concept. The arc-shaped flower stand made of black-grey stone, supplemented by evergreen shrub and light reflection, creates a pine forest that intertwines perfectly with the building materials.

But the Fairy Tale Forest is more than just a visually stunning design. It's also an example of how design can be used to promote ecological education. The multi-layer planting used in the design not only provides seasonal scenery but also serves as a platform for people to learn about indigenous trees of Taiwan. The design also incorporates measures to adjust the weather, balance humidity and temperature, and reduce the use of air conditioning and lighting, thereby alleviating the urban heat island effect and promoting eco-friendliness.

The Fairy Tale Forest was completed in October 2020 in Taichung, Taiwan. Despite the challenges posed by the project, Hsu and his team managed to create a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also educational and environmentally friendly. This design is a testament to Hsu's commitment to blending design with sustainability, a commitment that has earned him accolades in the design world.

The Fairy Tale Forest is a shining example of how design can be used to create spaces that are not only visually stunning but also educational and sustainable. It's a design that tells a story, a design that educates, and a design that respects and enhances the environment. And it's a design that has rightfully earned Fu Chu Hsu the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021.
