Designer Xianming Hu Transforms Admission Letters into Art

Xianming Hu, inspired by the monotony of traditional college admission letters, sought to create a design that was not only innovative and distinguishable but also embodied the school's motto of "enjoying the scenery with hills and waters, cultivating people like planting trees." The result was an admission letter that allows the recipient to experience the unique culture of the school.

The admission letter, titled "The Seeds of Faith," is part of a set that includes a notebook and an enrollment guide. The design illustrates the stages of growth - Breeding, Germinating, Growing, and Flourishing. The dark green letter is adorned with silver and golden dots or seeds, symbolizing the power of seeds, the research objects for Beijing Forestry University. The concept behind the design is that college students, like seeds, can make significant contributions with the right cultivation.

The admission letter is made from gray cardboard, an environmentally friendly material made from recycled waste paper. The surface patterns are created using bronzing and hot silver, which save ink printing. This consideration for environmental protection is a testament to the university's commitment to sustainability.

The design process, which took place from April to July 2018 in Beijing, was not without its challenges. The admission letter needed to reflect the school's motto and differentiate itself from other universities. Despite these challenges, the final product was a unique and exquisite design that was both cost-effective and timely.

The impact of this design was significant. Upon its release, it garnered over 100,000 views within two hours on social media platforms like WeChat and Weibo. It was also featured on China Central Television (CCTV), China Daily, and other media outlets. This design has set a new trend in the design of admission letters, proving that even the most mundane items can be transformed into works of art.

The Seeds of Faith design was awarded the Golden A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
