La Boutique Jzn: A Unique Experience Store

Combining Tradition and Modernity in Commercial Space Design

While walking into the matte-gold-pink visual delight, embraced by the chic and elegant atmosphere from inside and outside the Chinese gridded window, one can surely feel a sense of joy and happiness in the space.

La Boutique Jzn, designed by Millton Yu, is a leading brand in the upscale Han Pastry market. With their new store, they aimed to create a unique experience that blends the warmth of the century-old pastry business with modern spatial aesthetics. The goal was to set a high standard in line with five-star hotels and international fashion brands, welcoming tourists from all over the world.

To differentiate from traditional pastry stores, the designers carefully chose their use of color tone, interior construction material, and space planning. The traditional rouge color, often associated with weddings and festivals, was replaced by a matte-gold-pink color, creating a highly impressive soft color tone in the space. This design choice helped the brand shed its old-fashioned image and become vibrant and youthful. Through this marketing strategy, La Boutique Jzn expanded its customer base and invigorated its century-old pastry brand.

The project, located in Taipei, Taiwan, covers an area of 68 square meters. The design team faced the challenge of balancing tradition and contemporary elements. They aimed to represent the elegance inherited from the traditional pastry brand while incorporating chic elements to bring out a sense of joy and happiness. The use of square and circle shapes, which symbolize scope, standard, and harmony in Chinese culture, can be seen throughout the store. From the Chinese gridded window pattern to the shape of the ceiling, arc angle desktop, woven rattan door of the cabinet, woven rattan chair back, and the pattern of metal wire embedded on the floor, these elements create a visual image that pays homage to tradition.

La Boutique Jzn's design project provides a boutique marketing strategy for the classic pastry business. By presenting spatial aesthetics and exquisiteness to showcase boutique pastries in high-quality packaging, this design sets a high standard in the quest for brand innovation. It successfully merges tradition and contemporary elements, creating a space that not only represents the brand's legacy but also brings back the sense of joy and happiness from old times.

The exceptional design of La Boutique Jzn has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which authentically combines experience and resourcefulness. By incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, this design contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
