The Magnificent Ten Miles: A Culinary Journey Back in Time

Yung-Jen Chen's Award-Winning Tang-Inspired Restaurant Interior Design

Yung-Jen Chen's restaurant design, The Magnificent Ten Miles, takes diners on a unique journey back to the Tang dynasty. This top-notch hotpot dining space in Jiayi City, Taiwan, is a testament to the designer's innovative approach to blending history, culture, and culinary experiences.

While most large hotpot restaurants in Taiwan feature the Japanese style, Chen's design inspiration stems from a deeper historical root. The so-called Japanese Zen style actually originated from the Tang dynasty in China. Chen's design, therefore, is a nod to this historical connection, drawing on the popularity of periodic palace dramas to create a dining environment that is both nostalgic and engaging.

The Magnificent Ten Miles is not just about aesthetics; it's also about providing a high-quality dining environment. Located in the prime location of Jiayi City, the third largest city in southern Taiwan, this flagship restaurant offers a unique dining experience to the city's 270,000 consumers. Its unique features and cost-effectiveness make it a prime choice for those seeking a wonderful, multi-faceted enjoyment.

The design realization of The Magnificent Ten Miles is a blend of traditional and modern elements. Upon entering, diners are greeted by three hardwood double doors, retro Chinese lanterns, and a pool with lion-shaped hitching posts. The lobby features a long pool with a hazy and vaporous fountain, surrounded by marble, lightly pebbled slate, and wooden columns. The lighting, reminiscent of torches, creates a space of great magnificence and gradations.

Chen's design also focuses on functionality and ease of movement. The original trapezium layout was divided and arranged accurately to fit stoves with gas pipes. Screens and pools were used to make the space look bigger, and open-plan dining rooms and seating arrangements were used to resolve layout limitations and ensure a smooth flow.

Despite the challenges, The Magnificent Ten Miles has managed to create a distinctive aura that allows consumers to travel back in time. The stylish unity in the ceiling, floor, and walls imparts a distinguished taste. Not only is the problem with the flow accurately resolved, but a comfortable dining distance is retained, along with sufficient privacy. The result is a restaurant teeming with diners, and its aroma stretches for magnificent ten miles.

The Magnificent Ten Miles was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is a testament to the design's outstanding expertise and innovation. It is a remarkable level of excellence that introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
