Composed of the characteristics "consolidation" and "diversity," the design style "nostalgia" showcases a specific modern and pleasant lifestyle. Designed by Jung-Chen Hsieh and Yi-Hsuan Lung, this interior design project successfully combines the charms of LOFT with a nostalgic touch.
The design embraces the characteristics of LOFT style, including iron works, exposed plumbing, cement materials, decorative cabinets, and Edison lamps. These elements infuse the space with a warm idiosyncrasy, harmoniously balancing atmosphere and functionality. To further enhance the North European style, the designers have incorporated a single leather chair, an old-fashioned TV, and a vinyl record player, creating a space that boldly embraces the design concept.
Spanning 138 square meters, this residence in Hsinchu County, Taiwan, offers an open layout that combines the living room, kitchen, and bar. The long dining table serves as a versatile working table, effectively separating the living room from the bar area. The combination of exposed plumbing, exposed concrete walls, and wooden floors creates a convenient space for both work and gatherings.
The design challenges were overcome by creating compound spaces that serve multiple purposes. The bar area allows for light meals and food storage, while the kitchen provides a space for studying and eating. The TV wall, adorned with red bricks, not only strengthens the LOFT style but also adds a coarse texture to the overall design.
Favored by the client, the dark blue and green color scheme, retro-style illuminations, and the exposed concrete walls and ceilings evoke a sense of nostalgia and happiness. This residence truly embodies the essence of the "nostalgia" design style.
The Nostalgia design project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2018. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. The design showcases strong technical and creative skills and contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
