Moon of Elegance: A Sophisticated and Functional Residential House

Designing for Safety and Elegance

Moon of Elegance, designed by Jia-Chi Shiu, is a residential house specifically tailored for a retired senior couple. The design prioritizes safety and easy movement, incorporating curvy elements and chamfered furniture to eliminate sharp angles.

One of the unique features of Moon of Elegance is its use of distinctive materials that reflect the homeowners' preferences. The dining table, made of subdued African glistening teak, adds a touch of elegance to the space. To maintain a cohesive color scheme, the table is painted with non-toxic paint. Additionally, the island adjacent to the dining table is constructed with acid- and heat-resistant clay tiles, providing both functionality and visual variety.

The realization of Moon of Elegance involves a combination of different technologies. At the entrance, see-through storage is created using one-piece iron and brushed hardwood veneer. This soft light-color tone extends into the system cabinets on the main wall of the common area. The warm-toned wood complements the marble walls, creating an atmosphere of modesty and elegance. The living room is defined by partitions on the ceiling and soft, indirect lighting, enhancing the overall ambiance.

With a total area of 134.54m2 and a height of only 2.3 meters, Moon of Elegance maximizes the use of space while maintaining a sense of openness. The design challenges the traditional square layout of regular residences by incorporating numerous see-through elements. This not only creates an illusion of a larger space but also allows for an abundance of natural light to penetrate the interior.

The interaction within Moon of Elegance is carefully considered to enhance functionality and convenience. The curvy sofas in the living room promote easy movement and mobility. The brown tiles on the floor resemble fair-faced concrete, contributing to a consistent color scheme throughout the house. The study area features hardwood cabinets with tinted glass of various colors, allowing light to penetrate and reflect, creating a captivating play of colors. The master bedroom includes storage behind the bed, adjusting spatial proportions and hiding structural elements from view.

The master bathroom follows a layout similar to that of a hotel bathroom, with separate shower and bathtub areas. Clay tiles cover the sink and bathtub, while carefully selected mirrors define the sections and allow for ample light. The lighting within Moon of Elegance is designed to meet the specific needs of each area, with easy-to-clean fixtures that do not compromise space.

Moon of Elegance was completed in January 2021 in Taichung. The design incorporates meticulous research, ensuring that every aspect of the house meets the needs of the homeowners. The system cabinets in the kitchen, characterized by salmon pink panels with a matte baked enamel finish, are not only visually appealing but also greaseproof, heat-resistant, and stain-resistant. Storage solutions are carefully designed to cater to the convenience of senior users.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. Moon of Elegance stands out for its practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial requirements. It exemplifies the integration of industry best practices and technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
