Le Temps Patisserie: A Timeless Dessert Shop by Xie Suting

Reviving an Old Plant into a Minimalist Dessert Shop

Xie Suting, the chief designer, and her team from DC Design, were inspired by the French words "Le Temps", meaning "time". The shop owner chose this name hoping that the joy of enjoying desserts and the profound memories associated with it could withstand the passage of time. The design team faced the challenge of integrating new design elements into the old building to give it a rebirth. The result is a space injected with vitality, providing people with a delightful experience.

The unique properties of the design lie in its minimalist style. The space was designed with white, gray, and black as the major hues, keeping a low profile to highlight the desserts. The original space had some columns with uneven surfaces. After much deliberation, the team dismantled these columns, creating a "clean" space without any superfluous structure. The concept of "Less is more" was applied in the spatial structure design.

The realization of the design was achieved through the use of a palette of black, gray, and white. The main space consists of three "boxes". The black box induces calmness, the white box is refreshing, and the gray box adds a sense of storytelling glamour. The interpenetration of these boxes with different colors adds a sense of layering to the overall space.

The shop uses exquisite and simple items such as furniture from HAY, and utensils of BELOINOX, CUTIPOL MOON, 1616 ARITA, and STELTON EM77. The project area is 260 sqm. The design project started in February 2018 in Fu Zhou, China, and was completed in July 2018.

The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. The Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
