Wood Stone Serenity: A Blend of Luxury and Tranquility

Chun Hsiang Yang's Award-Winning Residential Interior Design

In a world where design often leans towards minimalism, Chun Hsiang Yang's 'Wood Stone Serenity' stands out with its blend of sumptuous materials and understated elegance. This residential interior design project, which has won the prestigious A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a testament to Yang's ability to create a serene and luxurious living environment.

Wood Stone Serenity is a composite house with the first floor serving as the homeowner's office and the upper levels as the family's living space. The design is unique in its use of dark-tone hardwood and grayish-black stone material, creating an atmosphere of composure and magnificence. The luxury and elegance of the design are subtly revealed, reflecting the homeowner's distinguished taste and preference.

The building itself has front and back facades that allow for natural light, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the space. The upper levels include public areas—a living room and a dining room—and private quarters—a lounging area and bedrooms. The neat and square layout of the building adds to its appeal.

The design's realization is a result of the clever use of interchangeable light and shadow, proportional lines, and the pairing of different materials. The space is brought to life by small, delicate sculptures and sunlight that lithely morph into one another. The open-work stairway features concave display cabinets framed by white wall and black titanium-plated metal, adding another layer of sophistication to the design.

On the second floor, the living room features a wooden wall, a marble wall, and display cabinets that create an ambience of wood and stone, imparting a sense of nature. The unadorned ceiling and beige L-shape sofa add lightness to the dark-tone space. The same style continues into the dining room, with an island bar defining the cooking area and dining section. Dark-tone wood cabinets, cupboards, and hardwood dining table are complemented by titanium-plated structures and metallic-hue light fixtures, creating a striking focal point.

The third floor of the house is a section for children. The wall and the floor next to the open-work wooden stairway, with natural light going through, present a play of light and shadow and shape an enriched spatial perception. Vertical wooden lines form the space at the end of the stairway and go beyond the wall to the ceiling. This consistent directivity serves to diminish the division between the wall and the ceiling and add variety to the space. The open-plan lounging area sits right next to the study, which enjoys a large window that allows natural light to stream in.

Wood Stone Serenity is a testament to Chun Hsiang Yang's ability to create a serene and luxurious living environment. The design, which has won the prestigious A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a blend of sumptuous materials and understated elegance that subtly reveals the luxury and elegance of the design, reflecting the homeowner's distinguished taste and preference. It is a design worth relishing slowly, a perfect example of how a multi-functional house can be turned into an elegant, laid-back space.
