A Technological Marvel Inspired by Unpolished Diamonds

The primary materials used in the production of this footwear design are synthetic rubber and elastic fabric. In this case, the synthetic rubber was optimized by computerized virtual physical algorithms and tests to derive the structure of each part and its required mass. In addition, connections for one-piece molding exist between all aspects of the sole to help achieve rapid processing and footbed stability. At the same time, the support structure extending from the sole to the ankle also provides sufficient bonding space for the upper to ensure proper curvature and wrapping.

Adamas measures 320mm in length, 115mm in width, and 150mm in height, making it a sleek and compact design that is both stylish and functional.

This innovative shoe design falls under the categories of lifestyle, computational, techwear, laceless design, and footwear design. It is the brainchild of Hengbo Zhang and Wenxi Qi, who collaborated on the project from March to June 2019 in Champaign, IL. The design was later exhibited in Beijing in September 2020 and Los Angeles in April 2021, garnering attention and praise from the global design community.

Adamas represents a breakthrough in shoe design, with its unique combination of form and function. The designers conducted extensive research to optimize the outsole shape and ensure a perfect fit between the soft and hard materials. By utilizing computer analysis, they were able to control the force of materials and improve the wrapping of the upper. The one-piece molded sole not only provides reliable abrasion resistance but also supports the sides of the upper, reducing waste in the manufacturing process.
