The Horizon design is a breakthrough in the footwear industry. Its unique outsole is assembled from 102 completely independent and highly resilient-rebound ccilucell units, a technologically advanced footwear compound. This innovative design allows for optimal flexibility and adaptability, offering a multi-point supportive surface that can adapt to various terrains. The outsole's black and white design is inspired by the Ichimatsu Moyo pattern, a symbol of elite fashion in the golden age of Japanese history.
Horizon's design was inspired by the vision of a future where products automatically adjust to meet the user's needs. The shoe's sole, composed of over a hundred independent pieces, can adapt to various terrains while providing comfort to the wearer. Combined with different upper designs, the Horizon offers comfort for any occasion, whether formal or casual.
The realization of the Horizon design was a technical feat. The outsole is assembled with two different color ccilucell compound units through the innovative skive-on technology, making it soft and flexible. The EVA rim forms a stable foundation that can be paired with various upper designs and materials.
The design process was not without its challenges. The team faced difficulties in creating an outsole with a black and white check board pattern, inspired by the Ichimatsu Moyo pattern. The process required two whole pairs of outsoles, leading to wastage and increased production costs. To overcome this, the team designed equipment to switch the pieces to the corresponding location, resulting in two opposite pattern pairs of outsole and zero waste.
The Horizon project started in April 2015 and was completed in May 2016 in Taiwan. It was launched in the CCILU SS17 Global conference in June 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design was a result of extensive research by the CCILU development team on how to combine isolated pieces into a whole outsole. The result was a shoe that offers variable barefoot adaptations on different terrains, light and shock absorbent, and has abrasion resisting ability.
