Inter Realm: A Unique Residential House Design

Exploring the Interrelated Relationship Between Spaces and Objects

Examining the project as a whole, "Inter Realm" is utilized as the core design concept, with the white space as the axis connecting objects to space, and the delicate balance that the hidden white space is molded into illuminates the spotlight on the interrelated relationship between spaces and objects.

Designed by Wang Yi Fang, the Inter Realm residential house stands out with its innovative approach to space and object interaction. This unique design focuses on three key relationships: the atmosphere between the environment and the medium, the perception that the medium brings to the user, and the interaction between the user and the environment. By emphasizing these relationships, the design promotes dialogue among people, objects, and the environment.

One of the standout features of the Inter Realm design is the use of titanium-plated edges on several interior walls. This design choice creates a dialogue among materials and highlights the linear proportions of the space. In the private area, the bedroom focuses on storage functions, with vertical doors and horizontal laminates on the cabinet surface providing an appealing horizontal and vertical linear contrast.

From the foyer to the living room, a wall-to-wall black mirror cabinet reflects the public domain and broadens one's field of vision. At the rear of the living room, a specially-designed floating wall cabinet cleverly creates picturesque disorder with the ceiling, wall, and low cabinet behind the sofa. These design elements not only alleviate the constricted feeling caused by the low ceiling but also create a narrative relationship between the various objects in the space.

The Inter Realm design also pays attention to optimizing function and creating an environment that conveys the best relationship to the user. The intentional use of white spaces forms a natural background and enlarges the layout of the area. The space is full of sequences and lines directing one's attention to the foyer, which serves as a focal point with a mosaic collage that imitates Vermeer's famous painting, "Girl with a Pearl Earring."

Construction of the Inter Realm design began on July 13, 2020, and was completed on December 31, 2020. Throughout the design process, Wang Yi Fang conducted extensive research on the interplay between the medium and the environment, aiming to create a sense of existence through their complementarity. The result is a residential house that embodies artistry and aesthetic thinking.

The Inter Realm design has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Inter Realm design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
