Flow Reef stands out as a testament to the seamless integration of nature within the urban dwelling. Po Chuan Kao, the visionary behind this project, drew inspiration from the transformation of coral from gray to green, a process shaped by time and space. The residence is a canvas where low-saturation dark materials represent the rocky shoreline, while the spatial arrangement echoes the organic structure of coral reefs. The design team's approach to light and shadow mimics the ebb and flow of the sea, crafting a stable and harmonious environment that juxtaposes clarity with contrast.
The residence's layout is a deliberate division between social and private spaces, each clearly defined in function and form. The social area features an innovative foyer facade cabinetry and countertop design that not only serves as a storage solution but also delineates the dining room from the kitchen. A fusion of a long dining table with the kitchen island, complemented by artistic lighting and wood veneer finishes, creates a focal point for communal gatherings. The subtle use of light gray mineral paint adds a refined touch to the walls, highlighting the area's aesthetic appeal.
Flow Reef's material palette is a deliberate choice that emphasizes sustainability and environmental consciousness. Italian mineral paint, iron, wood flooring, and eco-friendly panels are among the materials that layer the space in low-saturation tones, echoing the design's natural inspiration. The use of marble, stained glass, and titanium plating not only defines the space's functionality but also reinforces the connection to nature's enduring beauty.
The technical specifications of Flow Reef reveal a meticulous planning process tailored to the occupants' needs. With a total area of 148.7 square meters, the apartment includes two bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. The design team's strategic layout merges bedrooms to optimize space, while the kitchen is divided into areas for light meals and more involved cooking, reflecting the client's lifestyle. The open plan design enhances the social area's comfort and circulation, inviting natural light and city views into the home.
The interaction within Flow Reef is designed for convenience, whether for entertaining guests or daily living. The kitchen island acts as a subtle partition that maintains an open view throughout the social area. The master bedroom's bathroom, with its moru glass partition and grayscale marble, offers a luxurious bathing experience, allowing occupants to bask in natural light and panoramic views. This design consideration ensures that every aspect of the residence is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Completed in June 2023 in Rimini, Flow Reef is the culmination of extensive research into the natural landscape of rocky shores and green reefs. The design team's innovative interpretation of wave curves and the use of calming tones have resulted in a modern and minimalist space that encapsulates the essence of coastal serenity. The project's success is a reflection of the team's ability to translate abstract living imagery into a tangible and inviting home environment.
Flow Reef's design journey was marked by the challenge of blending abstract concepts with natural laws, a pursuit that Po Chuan Kao and the team navigated with finesse. The project's recognition with a Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category in 2024 is a testament to its exceptional design quality and innovation. Flow Reef is not just a residence; it is a sanctuary that embodies the spirit of the coast, offering a peaceful retreat within the urban landscape.
