Fuhome: A Dream House of Happiness and Harmony

Redesigning a Residential House with a Warehouse-Style Layout

Fuhome, designed by Jan Ham, is a residential house located in Hung Hom, featuring a unique warehouse-style layout that creates a happy and harmonious living space for its owner.

The considerations for Fuhome revolved around redesigning the functional areas of the space, incorporating a warehouse-style theme, and creating a dream house that promotes happiness and harmony. The house boasts an open kitchen, a playroom, a laundry room, and a shared room for children, among other features.

With a useful area of 2,228 square feet, Fuhome offers ample space for comfortable living. The spatial pattern includes four halls and six rooms, providing a versatile layout that can be adapted to the needs of the residents.

The realization of Fuhome involved the use of various design elements and technologies. The furniture selection includes brands like Massive Dynamic and TM Maison, while Paso Lighting provides the lighting solutions. Tat Ming Wallpaper, Dulux paint, and R&B and Tat Ming Flooring contribute to the overall aesthetic. The bathroom features tiles from R&B and sanitary ware and faucets from Toto and Grohe.

One of the unique aspects of Fuhome is its interaction with the residents. The connected units are opened up, creating a layout that resembles a mirror. The house is designed to accommodate a four-bedroom, six-bedroom, two-kitchen, and four-bathroom layout. The integration and planning of the space ensure a clever reproduction of the warehouse-style theme.

During the design process, the team faced challenges such as solving the problem of oil smoke during cooking. The use of an iron mesh glass black frame sliding door as the partition door for the open kitchen effectively addresses this issue. Additionally, the sliding doors in the children's connected rooms and the master bedroom's bathroom provide convenience and flexibility for the residents.

Fuhome was designed by a team led by Jan Ham, including designers Ham Kwok Fung, Suen On Tin, and Li Hoi Chun. The project started in October 2020 and was completed in February 2021.

The design of Fuhome was inspired by the desire to highlight the professionalism of the two generations of householders. The use of air freight containers and black and white flags reflects the professional work of the father and son. The incorporation of rough and primitive elements, such as cement board TV walls and whitewashed red brick walls, creates a warehouse aesthetic that complements modern life.

Fuhome has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of Fuhome, which meets professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
