Polygon House: A Unique Blend of Architecture and Tranquility

The inspiration for the Polygon House came from the natural lines of the ground and the desire to create a building that opens up to the sea. The layout of the building volumes may seem random, but it is carefully planned to ensure that each area of the house has a clear view of the sea from any angle. This unique approach creates a complex polygon in plan view, adding visual interest to the overall design.

What sets the Polygon House apart is its ability to maintain the capacity of lines and volumes while incorporating broken geometries. The result is a visually striking building that offers both functionality and tranquility. The dynamic lines of the building volumes define the internal functions of the house, with two levels that can function as two separate living spaces.

The materials used in the construction of the Polygon House are simple and industrial, such as concrete and metal sunshades. The use of glass railings without intermediate supports ensures that there are no obstructions between the eye and the horizon, allowing for uninterrupted views of the sea. This simplicity and austerity of design materials aligns with the local traditional architecture and creates a contemporary and cost-effective structure.

On the upper level of the Polygon House, the night zone functions are located, along with an office space created in the inner balcony. There is also a semi-open space that allows occupants to step outside without going to the uncovered pool area. The view from this level is panoramic and unobstructed. The ground floor houses the daily functions of the house, including a living room and kitchen that open up to the sea through large overlapping windows. The bedrooms on the ground floor also offer unobstructed sea views, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Polygon House is located on the island of Skiathos in Greece, on a plot with a large inclination slope. The placement of the house on this sloping plot presented a challenge, but the design successfully overcame it by ensuring a low-cost construction while maintaining the desired unobstructed view.

The Polygon House is not only a visually stunning architectural masterpiece but also a testament to the harmonization of design with the natural environment. Its unique blend of broken geometries, unobstructed views, and functional spaces create a truly exceptional living experience.
