Guangzhou Peace World Plaza: A Modern Office Space Inspired by Nature

Muchuan Xu, Minxi Cai and Xiaofeng Li's Award-Winning Design Merges Functionality with Aesthetics

Inspired by the grandeur of mountains and the tranquility of nature, the Guangzhou Peace World Plaza, designed by Muchuan Xu, Minxi Cai and Xiaofeng Li, redefines the concept of modern office space. This Silver A' Design Award-winning project is a testament to the fusion of art, architecture, and innovation.

The design team, led by Muchuan Xu and including Minxi Cai, Xiaofeng Li, Junjie Li, and Lingjing He, drew inspiration from overlapping mountains to create a humanistic and exquisite office social space. The project, which started in September 2020 and completed in March 2021 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, aimed to sort out and reconstruct the relationship of space boundary in modern office spaces.

The unique aspect of this design lies in its approach to space planning. The team used the principle of Voronoi diagram to generate a layout corresponding to each functional area, including multiple project groups, group discussion areas, group creation areas, activity areas, and a bar in the office. This method made the spatial layout clearer, effectively defining each spatial interface.

One of the key challenges the team faced was projecting the concept of overlapping mountains into each section of the facade and cut to weaken the boundary of each functional area. To overcome this, extensive gradient atomized glass and metal lines were used on the facade materials to virtualize the boundary. The result is an office space that feels more like a landscape ink painting, where the boundaries between functional areas are efficient and clear, and interactions are more organic.

The design encourages interaction and dialogue between people and their surroundings. As described by the designers, "One mountain, two mountains. May I one day surmount the absolute highest, For an outlook that miniaturize all mountains there lay. Unknowingly, After passing thousands of mountains, I will become your confidant again. Because fate is placed in this mountain, people can interact with the mountains."

The Guangzhou Peace World Plaza is not just an office space; it's a testament to the power of design and innovation in transforming everyday spaces into works of art. The project's success is evident in its Silver A' Design Award in 2022, a prestigious recognition given to designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation.

As the designers note, "The original intention of the interior design of the office of Peace world plaza is to sort out and reconstructing the relationship of space boundary in modern office space. This project draws on the different functional requirements of the client in the space and takes the overlapping mountains as the source of inspiration. The interface between the various functions will be weakened and organically combined to create a modern, humanistic and exquisite office social space."
