Zhenlong Mansion: A Blend of Tradition and Modernity

YLH Design's Award-Winning Sales Office Inspired by Ancient Chinese Academia

YLH Design's Zhenlong Mansion, a sales office inspired by the Beijing Directorate of Imperial Academy, merges classical Chinese aesthetics with modern design elements. The project, which won the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, presents a unique, scholarly, and artistic space.

YLH Design drew inspiration from the highest institution in ancient China, the Beijing Directorate of Imperial Academy. The design team, consisting of Zhang Yun, Zhang Huai, and Zhang Lang, studied the structure and style of this ancient architectural marvel and combined it with modern design elements. The result is a space that exudes an academic atmosphere while also being contemporary and functional.

The project stands out for its distinctive Chinese characteristics. Chinese red, a color symbolizing good fortune and joy in Chinese culture, has been chosen as the main color. The layout imitates the ancient Chinese Academy, and the materials used are primarily wood and ecological materials. The space includes a hall, corridor, negotiation area, and sand table area, presenting a calm, scholarly, and artistic ambiance.

The realization of this design involved the use of Chinese tenon and mortise structure, stone seal cutting techniques, and wallpaper rubbing. Materials used include ancient wood grain stone, cultural rubble, ancient wood grain ceramic tile, metal, wood facing, hand-painted wallpaper, silk glass, silver mirror, and cobble. The sales office, spanning 1270 square meters, is divided into two floors, each serving different functions, from a sand table area to a VIP room and office area.

The design process was not without its challenges. The team had to consider the building facade and surrounding environment, understand the project in combination with local properties, and meet the client's needs while maintaining the academic atmosphere. The original building had to be demolished and reconstructed in compliance with safety rules and laws to successfully implement the design concept.

The Zhenlong Mansion project started in December 2019 in Beijing, China, and was completed in March 2020. It is a testament to YLH Design's ability to create aesthetic and practical spaces that reflect the solemn and elegant temperament of traditional Chinese interior design. The project's success is evident in its Golden A' Design Award, granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
