Paga Microroastery: A Tribute to the Art of Coffee

Designed by Kijtanes Kajornrattanadech, this coffee bar brings the mountain to the city

Located in the heart of Bangkok's central business district, Paga Microroastery is a unique coffee bar that pays homage to the intricate process of coffee cultivation. The design, inspired by the mountains where coffee beans are grown, aims to provide a tranquil sanctuary amidst the city's hustle and bustle.

The three-story corner building, designed by Kijtanes Kajornrattanadech and his team, including Anyarin Jermsitthiwong and Kamsorn Nadapun, stands out with its simple, solid, white facades. The minimalist design allows the building to adapt and create natural scenes through the change of the surrounding environment and sunlight, radiating calmness to the busy neighborhood. This design strategy enhances emotional interaction, drawing passers-by to explore the micro coffee experience from tasting to making.

The design's unique properties lie in its seamless integration of function and beauty. The main counter bar, made of artificial stone, spans 15 meters, providing a seamless coffee-making experience. The design team worked closely with the owner, a barista, to ensure that the design not only looks good but also promotes a healthy workflow for the staff.

The project, completed between January and April 2021, was not without its challenges. The team had to create a sanctuary in a busy environment, designing a simple building with creative interior details. They used natural light to enhance the building's beauty, creating a tranquil space that stands out in the busy city.

The design was inspired by the journey of the coffee bean, from the micro-lot mountain beans to the micro-roastery in the city. Each coffee bean contains a valuable journey, from cultivation to execution into a specialty coffee experience. This journey, which begins with sustainable farming practices and ends with the creativity of the barista, was the main inspiration for the design of Paga Microroastery.

Paga Microroastery has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. The design is a testament to the team's ability to create a space that not only serves a function but also tells a story and creates an emotional connection with its visitors.
