Waves: A Stylish and Functional Modular Closet

A Unique Design Inspired by the Beauty of Waves

The Waves closet is a 7-piece modular unit made of lacquered wood, offering a fresh take on traditional wardrobe design. With a height of 1800mm, it provides ample storage space while maintaining an ergonomic and user-friendly layout. The closet features flexible shelf adjustments for cosmetics and underwear, large drawers for clothes and accessories, and a sliding shirt hanger from the side.

What sets Waves apart is its unique logic and aesthetics. The design experiments with the traditional concept of a closet, challenging its looks and utilities. The clean-cut sculptural attitude of the closet is complemented by the push-to-open system, enhancing the overall user experience.

The realization of the Waves closet involves the use of lacquered wood for the 7 independent cabinets. The push-to-open system allows for smooth sliding drawers, adding to the wave-like experience. The interior and exterior of the closet are hand-painted in a single tone of matte blue, symbolizing the essence of water.

With dimensions of 1800mm width, 750mm depth, and 1800mm height, the Waves closet offers a spacious and functional storage solution for any room.

Hasan Ozkul embarked on the Waves project in July 2021 in Iskenderun and completed it in November 2021 in Istanbul. The design process involved extensive research and experimentation to transform a traditional wardrobe into a user-friendly storage item that contributes to the overall atmosphere of a room.

One of the main challenges in creating Waves was to break away from the conventional rectangular cabinet design and create a monumental piece that also offers sufficient storage space. The design needed to communicate with its environment and users, while also providing surfaces for display or storage. The result is a wave sculpture that answers all these challenges, combining form and function in a harmonious way.

Waves has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
