Beijing Wonderful: A Harmonious Blend of Art and Office Space

Haoyu Liu's Award-Winning Design Merges Functionality and Aesthetics

Haoyu Liu's design philosophy focuses on the users of the space and their emotional connection to it. The design is not just about the physical structure, but also about how the space is used. Liu believes that the interplay between the city and the building, the function and emotion between human and space, and different levels are all interconnected and complementary, achieving the ultimate unity that defines the true essence of space.

What sets Beijing Wonderful apart is its progressive building volume, which forms a visual continuity with the red brick facade. The design connects the past and the future, using space as a carrier to epitomize the city's evolution over time. Liu overlaps light and shadow with nature, creating an atmosphere through modern minimalism and redefining the symbiotic relationship between architecture and interior.

The project, a multi-functional complex business space, spans 2,100 square meters. The first floor features areas for guest reception and rest, art areas for collection show and piano performing, and independent areas for dining and working. The second floor is dedicated to office space. The design is realized through the addition of a soft film ceiling surface light to the landscape device to adjust the temperature and brightness, and a soft light band on the ground to illuminate the entire device.

One of the design's highlights is the landscape mirror installation in the reception area of the front hall. This feature is not just a spatial structure, but also a decorative sculpture. The curve extends, and the light and shadow flow, creating a quiet, poetic, and futuristic ambiance. The water drop fountain, with its natural sound of water, further enhances this effect.

Beijing Wonderful is a product of Liu's belief that design is about building a field of space-time relationship. The space displays art exhibits that span thousands of years, creating a dialogue between history and the present, and giving the whole space the power of time and gathering Qi. This Qi, according to Liu, is the ultimate purpose of shaping the space.

Beijing Wonderful is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and the potential it has to transform spaces. It is a shining example of how design can be used to create spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and emotionally engaging. It's no surprise that this innovative design was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022.
