Unbounded: A Unique Office Design by Sheng Tao

Breaking the Boundaries of Traditional Office Spaces

Unbounded was inspired by the idea of breaking free from the constraints of traditional office design. Sheng Tao took a sweeping cutting approach to the entire space, allowing abrupt and corner spaces to coexist harmoniously. The irregular plane design not only guides people's attention but also effectively deals with visual conflicts, extending the field of vision and creating a seamless connection between the interior and exterior of the office.

One of the standout features of Unbounded is its "V" shaped staircase. This unconventional design choice adds a sense of solidity and strength to the overall space. With transparent glass on both sides, the staircase creates a narrow space with corners, enhancing the connection between the first and second floors and providing a unique sense of crossing for those who walk above.

The realization of Unbounded involved the use of materials such as glass, wood veneer, and latex paint. The combination of these elements adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the design, further enhancing its visual appeal.

Unbounded spans an area of 350 square meters, offering ample space for various office functions. The design seamlessly integrates three sets of independent loft apartments, resulting in a versatile workspace that can be easily adapted to meet the owner's specific needs.

The project, which began in June 2015 and was completed in December 2015, took place in Nanjing. Throughout the design process, Sheng Tao and his team faced several challenges, including the L-shaped planar contour and the presence of structural columns and drainage pipes at the entrance space. However, through creative problem-solving, they were able to overcome these obstacles and create a design that effectively showcases the corporate image.

Unbounded has received widespread recognition and acclaim. In 2017, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate excellence in both practicality and innovation, meeting the highest professional and industrial standards. Unbounded's integration of industry best practices and its competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world, making it a truly deserving recipient of this accolade.
