Xia Yiting's "Lake": A Revolutionary Tea Table Design

Winner of the Prestigious Platinum A' Furniture Design Award 2022

Xia Yiting's inspiration for "Lake" stemmed from a deep contemplation of solid wood furniture. The designer sought to extend the traditional, stable aura of wood furniture by introducing a curved surface style. This innovative approach adheres to the organic concept, creating a cozy and relaxing atmosphere in contemporary living rooms. The design also integrates essential functions to cater to modern lifestyle needs.

"Lake" stands out for its distinctive 3D curved surface style, a novel approach to wood furniture design. It strikes a perfect balance between motion and stillness, adding an ethereal feeling to modern home spaces. The visual flow of the design imparts a chic and vibrant sense to users, making it a unique addition to any home.

The tea table is crafted from North American black walnut, processed through 3D curved surface style CNC machining. The table is directly assembled from the cut wood and painted with OSMO wax oil, with an oil-free paint base. The technical specifications of the table are 1600*600*830mm, making it a versatile piece for various spaces.

One of the unique features of "Lake" is its hidden USB jack and an International three-hole socket, catering to the daily power needs of users. Additionally, a hidden drawer on the side, equipped with Austrian Blum 560H series 40cm TANDEM full extension concealed undermount slide, can be fully pulled out for ease of use. These features make the table highly functional and user-friendly.

The design project, which began in Beijing, China, in February 2019, was completed in Henan, China, in October 2020. It was later exhibited in Caochangdi Arts in November 2020. The design process involved extensive research on wooden furniture, with a focus on introducing a new curved 3D style to solid wood. The challenge of ensuring stability with a large upper part and a small lower part was overcome through careful planning of the grounding area.

"Lake" was awarded Platinum in A' Furniture Design Award in 2022, a testament to its exceptional design and innovative approach. The award recognizes world-class, highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing and push the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
