87MM: A Decade of Fashion Narrated in a Book

Designer Sunghoon Kim Captures the 10-Year Journey of Korean Fashion Brand 87MM in a Unique Brand Book

Unveiling the story of a decade-long journey of Korean fashion brand 87MM, designer Sunghoon Kim has crafted a unique brand book. The book, an amalgamation of art, design, and fashion, encapsulates the brand's philosophy, its founders' stories, and the evolution of 87MM since its inception in 2011.

While interviewing the founders of 87MM, both of whom were fashion models, Kim was inspired by their journey of creating clothes. The book is a testament to their ten years of fashion creation, reflecting their favorite colors, graphics, and various elements. The design of the book, inspired by the numbers 8 and 7, is a visual representation of the brand's identity.

The brand book is not just a compilation of images and texts; it's a narrative of 87MM's journey over the past decade. The cover design, created using debossing and matte inkstones, symbolizes the accumulation of stories over the years. The book is divided into three parts, each with a distinct texture and feel, achieved by using four types of paper.

With a hardcover design and 400 pages, the book measures 190 mm × 280 mm × 33 mm. The cover features debossing and hot foil stamping in gloss black, while the spine also features hot foil stamping. The paper is coated with a silkscreen to create a unique texture, differentiating it from other parts of the book.

The book serves as a bridge between the brand and its followers, telling the story of its establishment and evolution. It aims to foster a closer connection with the young Korean public who admire 87MM, through the brand's story, the founders' journey, and the brand's philosophy.

The project, which started in Seoul, Korea, in March 2021, concluded in January 2022. The book has been on sale in Korea since then. The design process involved organizing and classifying vast amounts of data from the past decade, selecting the most interesting and brand-relevant records, and harmonizing the newly designed font with the written story.

87MM is a leading fashion brand in Korea, known for creating everyday culture through sense and wit. The brand book, titled "Moment by Moment, We Say No Concept But Good Sense," is a testament to the brand's philosophy and its 10-year journey. The book has been recognized for its creative and professional design, winning the Silver A' Print and Published Media Design Award in 2022.
