Modo Design Team's Innovative Approach to Eyewear Construction

The Snap Hinge system, part of Modo's eyewear collection, surpasses traditional hinge constructions, which typically consist of several components. The snap hinge's primary function is to join the front of a pair of glasses to their temples through a simple method – click, by pressure. This innovative design eliminates the need for screws or welding, providing a reliable connection and smooth friction operation.

The design's uniqueness lies in its minimal components: a Beta-titanium temple with a specially designed hook shape, a small metal cylinder acting as the temple’s rotation mechanism, and an ultra-performing polymer frame front. The frame front, created by a specialized injection molding technique, houses the metal cylinder, contributing to the product's resilience and unlimited lifespan.

The assembly process is incredibly simple, involving only two operations: the insertion of the metal cylinder into the Beta-titanium temple hook and the pressure insertion of the cylinder + temple assembly into the injected polymer front’s housing. This construction is stable and resilient, with the bi-conical surface processing of the cylinder heads preventing the metal cylinder from rotating inside the front piece.

Modo's Snap Hinge system is not only innovative but also sustainable. It reduces production costs and has a high level of reliability due to the reduced number of its components. The design allows the hinge to be completely hidden inside the injected front, creating a minimal, clean, and eco-sustainable design. However, achieving this simplicity required a high degree of engineering and precision, particularly in creating the cavity/house of the cylinder inside the plastic polymer front.

The Snap Hinge system is a testament to Modo Design Team's commitment to innovation, simplicity, and sustainability in eyewear design. This design, which began in 2020 and launched in Spring-Summer 2022, has already received recognition, winning the Silver A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2022. The award celebrates top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
