During the creation of Moon Curve, a dialogue developed between the piece and Zayman. She wanted to make it as compelling as the hand it would sit on, acknowledging the complexity and beauty of the human hand. To achieve this, the ring needed to be three-dimensional, sculptural, and dynamic. As the hand moves, the ring should reveal something new and exciting, forming a sculpture more exciting than the sum of its parts.
The techniques and processes employed in the production of Moon Curve include forging, casting, carving, wax buildup, and stone setting. Zayman chose to forge the ring as the first process in its construction, appreciating the directness of forming metal with a hammer. After molding and casting, she carved the metal to further develop the curves and forms of the design.
Moon Curve measures 20mm in width, 35mm in height, and 20mm in depth. It is a gemstone ring featuring a moonstone, adding to its ethereal and poetic charm.
This wearable sculpture interacts with the wearer, changing and flowing with each movement. Its liveliness animates the person who wears it in a subtle yet unmistakable way, adding a touch of elegance and dynamism to any outfit.
Designed and created by Mary Zayman in New York City between January and April of 2013, Moon Curve is a testament to the balance between order and chaos found in the natural world. Zayman's research on forms and growth processes in nature influenced the design, resulting in a piece that embodies strength, beauty, and dynamism.
Moon Curve has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2014. This award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated by the design, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
Experience the dance of life with Moon Curve, a wearable sculpture that embodies the balance between strength and elegance.
