Mandana: A Unique Hand-Woven Necklace by Sareh Ghomi

Unleashing the Strength and Grace of a Queen

This piece of jewelry is a part of a collection inspired by the powerful women in history, specifically Mandana, queen consort of Cambyses of Anshan and mother of Cyrus the Great. Designed by Sareh Ghomi, Mandana showcases the strength of a queen and the grace of an angel. With 16 years of experience in designing and handcrafting, Ghomi has created a truly remarkable piece.

Mandana stands out with its unique design and technique of hand-weaving metal wires. The intricate craftsmanship and attention to detail make this necklace impressive and memorable. The design exudes strength and simplicity, never going out of style and remaining fashionable for centuries.

One of the standout features of Mandana is the use of brass as the main material. Over time, the brass oxidizes, giving the necklace a beautiful and authentic look. This natural aging process adds to the uniqueness and timelessness of the piece.

To create Mandana, Ghomi utilized the technique of hand-weaving metal wires. The necklace features six wire-net pendants in various shapes, including circles, squares, and rectangles. Each pendant is meticulously crafted from 0.5mm brass wire and mounted on a spring-type chain. Ghomi personally sketches and patterns each piece, ensuring the highest level of craftsmanship.

The necklace measures approximately 15cm in diameter, with three circle-shaped pendants measuring around 30mm each. Additionally, there is one circle-shaped pendant with a diameter of about 45mm, one square-shaped pendant measuring 45mm x 45mm, and one rectangular-shaped pendant measuring 30mm x 55mm.

Wearing Mandana is a breeze, as it can be easily fitted on the neck and locked by hand without any assistance. As time goes by, the color of the necklace will gradually change to a greenish hue, enhancing its antique and authentic appearance.

The entire project of designing and creating the Mandana collection, consisting of 15 necklaces, 20 pairs of earrings, and 10 bracelets, took place from May 2008 to December 2011 in Tehran. Throughout the process, Ghomi conducted extensive research on ancient Persian jewelry and the history of art, drawing inspiration from textile and hand-craft traditions in Iran.

Despite the challenges faced during the design process, such as the oxidation of the brass, Ghomi turned them into advantages. The changing color of the necklace over time adds to its authenticity and visual appeal.

Mandana is a testament to Sareh Ghomi's talent and dedication to creating unique and timeless jewelry. With its hand-woven metal wires and the natural aging of brass, this necklace captures the essence of strength and simplicity. It is a true work of art that pays homage to the powerful women of history.
