Silky Bracelet: Simplicity and Complexity in Perfect Harmony

A Minimalist Masterpiece by Jingcheng Wu

Inspired by the beauty of mathematics, the Silky Bracelet by Jingcheng Wu is a stunning piece of jewelry that embodies the concept of simplicity and complexity coexisting harmoniously. With its hidden clasp and meticulously hand-carved texture, this bracelet is a true work of art.

What sets the Silky Bracelet apart from other designs is its attention to detail and unique features. The hidden clasp, designed to complement the overall minimalistic look, adds an element of surprise and elegance. The fine lines, painstakingly carved by hand, create a silky texture that is both visually appealing and tactile.

To bring this design to life, Jingcheng Wu employed a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. The 18K gold lines were precisely cut using a CNC machine, and then soldered together with a rotatable part that allows the bracelet to move while remaining sturdy. The clasp, registered for a utility model patent, is a testament to the designer's ingenuity, providing both security and ease of use.

Measuring at 1.5mm by 1.5mm by 18mm, each bar of the bracelet is meticulously crafted to ensure the perfect fit. The length of the bracelet is 16cm, making it suitable for most wrists. The intricate engraving, with 12 straight lines hand-engraved in every 1mm, showcases the designer's dedication to craftsmanship.

Designed to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing, the Silky Bracelet offers a unique interaction experience. The movable parts allow the bracelet to adapt to the wearer's wrist, while the invisible clasp, with its small size and button mechanism, makes it effortless to put on and take off.

The Silky Bracelet project began in March 2020 in Shenzhen, China, and was completed in May 2021. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted in the fields of watchmaking, jewelry, and architecture. The designer sought inspiration from various sources, including straps of watches and expert advice from the jewelry industry. The project gained significant attention on Xiaohongshu, a popular social media platform in China, with a video documenting the design process receiving over 4500 likes.

Overcoming the challenges of creating a movable design with hidden parts and a secure clasp required a combination of creative thinking and technical expertise. Drawing inspiration from architecture, watchmaking, and industrial design, Jingcheng Wu experimented with different models to achieve the perfect balance of simplicity, toughness, and ease of use.

The Silky Bracelet has been recognized for its exceptional design, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2022. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.

The Silky Bracelet by Jingcheng Wu is a testament to the beauty of mathematics and the power of design. With its simplicity and complexity intertwined, this bracelet is not just a piece of jewelry, but a work of art that embodies elegance and innovation.
