An elegant collier characterized by a contemporary and modern design, the Extravaganza is a sophisticated piece that exudes elegance when worn. Available in black or white, it allows for a multitude of combinations with its modern and pure design. The necklace is a one-piece creation, flexible and lightweight. Made from a non-precious material, it still manages to make a high fashion statement, transforming it into not just a piece of jewelry, but a body ornament that becomes a part of the wearer's mood and personality.
The Extravaganza collier is made using 3D printing technology, with the piece being built layer by layer. The first prototype was printed in nylon (polyamide), but to enhance flexibility, especially when worn, the designer is currently testing a new 3D printed rubber-like material that has already been used in the production of high fashion clothes.
With dimensions of 210 mm in width, 209 mm in depth, and 155 mm in height, the Extravaganza collier is a statement piece that demands attention.
This project began in January 2013 in Enschede and the first prototype of the combined armband was showcased at the Rapid 2013 3D print fair in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. The collier and armband were also exhibited during the 3D PrintShow in London and Paris in November 2013.
Dario Scapitta's research for this design involved a review of ancient paintings and contemporary interpretations of ruffs in fashion design. The aim was to find new connections between jewelry and fashion design, exploring the possibilities of body ornamentation and clothing decoration.
The main challenge in designing the Extravaganza collier was to capture the regal and elegant mood of the ancient ruffs while infusing a modern and contemporary design. Additionally, selecting the right material was crucial, as it needed to be flexible and lightweight to ensure comfort when worn.
The Extravaganza collier has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate exceptional expertise, innovation, technical characteristics, and artistic skill, evoking positive emotions and wonder.
