Nicola Botta's design draws inspiration from the actual image of the Big Bang - a perfect circle with sparks radiating from its center. The ring embodies this concept, with yellow gold and yellow beryls representing the core of the explosion. The top part, featuring a large central diamond and trapezoid-cut diamonds set in white gold, symbolizes the particles radiating towards the universe. All these elements are held together by a white gold band, creating a sense of depth and outward movement, akin to the explosion of the Big Bang.
The creation of this ring required a meticulous process. The first step involved combining the two levels of the ring by creating the bezel of the central diamond, passing it through a hole in the beryl pave, and securing it with laser welding to the band. The stones were then mounted, and the bezels welded together. The final phase involved joining the bezels of the trapezoid diamonds to the central diamond's bezel, along with the basis of beryls, and then welding the central bezel to the band with the laser.
With a weight of 32.9 grams and dimensions of 32mm x 32mm in width and a height of 33mm, the ring is designed to be worn on the middle finger or forefinger. It is not just a piece of jewelry, but a statement piece, a unique interpretation of the universe's creation.
The design was developed in 2014 in Milan, Italy, and took approximately 40 days from initial sketches to the final piece. The challenge was to create an object as close as possible to the image of the Big Bang, setting it on two levels and joining the parts of the ring, leaving the external stones more free, like the particles of the Big Bang.
The Big Bang ring by Nicola Botta is a testament to the designer's ability to transform an image into a piece of jewelry. It is a piece of jewelry characterized by a central round diamond surrounded by trapezoid diamonds and yellow beryls that give the sense of the outward movement, creating a real image of the Big Bang explosion. This design was awarded the Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2015, a prestigious accolade granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom.
